The full hair do...

Mud still flies. But your face stays clean.

Mud reaches your face in two ways: flung directly up off the back of the wheel, or indirectly thrown up and forwards then blown back at you. The Full Facial Gravel set blocks both, it contains:
  • CombOver for your frame to take the direct spray.
  • Toupee Gravel for your fork to top off the rest.

A CombOver alone keeps your face clean to about 17mph; the Full Facial Gravel set covers you at any speed you'll ride - all for 40g.

Super effective. Any mud type. Fit and forget. Light. Silent. Discreet enough to leave on permanently - and on UK trails, you'll be glad you did. Prefer flamboyant? That's covered too.

Fits almost any rigid gravel bike: any wheel or frame size, tyres up to 60mm. Easy to transport and store your bike - it stays out of the way.  Zip-ties included.

Got a rigid gravel bike? This is the easy answer.

Fitting Instructions

Fits in about 3 minutes using 6 zip-ties (supplied), see our fitting instructions.

CombOver (2 zip-ties)
  1. Separate the CombOver halves and remove the connecting pieces.
  2. Position one half against the frame, reaching the front of where the frame meets the fork crown. The curved part of the spine faces forward, so each side bows upward (like an "n", not a "u") with the slats roughly horizontal.
  3. Loop a zip-tie loosely around the CombOver. Avoid trapping any cables.
  4. Slide the second half through the zip-tie on the other side. Check both halves sit flush with slats horizontal, then snug it up.
  5. Loop the second zip-tie around both halves nearer the front. Tighten both zip-ties and trim the excess.
Toupee Gravel (4 zip-ties):

Choose internal (between the fork legs, under the crown) or external (wraps around outside the legs, above the crown) fit. Most forks have better fit inside (fewer obstacles such as brake hoses), but it will reduce tyre clearance by a couple of mm.

Internal mounting
  1. There are 4 pairs of holes on the tongue and 4 outer pairs symmetrically placed that will form a strip to mount inside the fork legs. Lay the Toupee Gravel down with the Fringe pointing forwards and with the tongue attached to the right side.
  2. Insert a zip-tie into the forward hole of the pair 2nd from the left, loop through the rightmost tongue pair, and back up through the rear hole of the original pair.
  3. Loop 3 more zip-ties through the other pairs from above.
  4. Place under the fork crown and between the fork legs, the Fringe in front of the forks above the front wheel. Loop the zip ties around the legs (without trapping any brake hoses) and tighten just enough to hold them in position.
  5. Adjust the position so the mounting strip is flush against the inside of the fork legs. For wider forks, another pair of holes in the tongue may fit better.
  6. Moving the bottom of each side forwards or backwards against the fork leg will raise or lower the Fringe relative to the tyre.
  7. Check the Toupee Gravel is close to, but not rubbing, the tyre and the wheel spins free. Once happy, snug up and trim the excess.
External mounting
  1. There are 4 pairs of holes symmetrically placed that form 2 strips to mount flush to the outside of the fork legs. The tongue and its 8 holes are NOT used for this mounting option - ignore them for now, they will be removed at the end.
  2. Lay the Toupee Gravel upside down (instructions visible) and loop 4 zip-ties through the hole pairs.
  3. Place above and around the fork legs, the Fringe in front of the forks above the front wheel. Loop the zip ties around the legs (without trapping any brake hoses) and tighten just enough to hold them in position.
  4. Moving the bottom of each side forwards or backwards against the fork leg will raise or lower the Fringe relative to the tyre.
  5. Check the Toupee Gravel is close to, but not rubbing, the tyre and the wheel spins free. Once happy, snug up the zip-ties, trim the excess and trim the tongue to match the other side.
FAQs
Will it keep me completely clean?

No! The Full Facial Gravel is born of a philosophy that only the face truly needs to be protected: keeping mud out of your eyes and mouth. In practice you'll be clean from your chest upwards.

They cover yer face - we never said anything about yer legs ;-).

Do I need anything else?

No. The set is the complete system: the CombOver blocks mud flung directly up off the back of the wheel, the Toupee Gravel blocks mud thrown indirectly up and forwards then blown back at you. Together they keep your face clean at any speed you'll ride. See How They Work for more details.

Why two small mudguards instead of one big one?

Because the mud takes two separate paths to your face, and they're best blocked from two different places - each close to your bike, where a small shield does the job. A single guard big enough to do both jobs is a compromise - they end-up heavier and stick-out more. See How They Work for more details.

Will it fit my bike?

Any rigid gravel bike with disc brakes: any wheel size, frame size, tyres up to 60mm. The Toupee Gravel mounts inside or outside the fork legs to suit your fork.

Suspension gravel fork? You probably want the standard Full Facial instead - see the FAQ page.

E-bikes: on some, a zip-tie could obstruct battery removal or a tapered down tube may not suit the CombOver - see the FAQ page.

Can I buy the pieces separately?

Yes - the CombOver and Toupee Gravel each have their own page. The set just gets you both for less.
